Helpful Tips for Using NVAS(NetView Access Services)
What is NVAS?
NVAS is a front end application that can be used instead of going through
all the steps for the signon procedure, which includes typing in the project number, depatment, codeword,
signon name and password. It will also give you the capability of using multiple CICS sessions, TSO,
Library, SYSM E-mail and Student Registration On-line System from one emulations session.
Keys Usage
PF3(F3)(From the Application Selection Menu Screen) - will
DISCONNECT the user from NVAS, but will NOT log you off each sesion that was active. This would be
something the user could do, if leaving the office for a short moment(i.e leaving the office to go to the
bathroom).
PA2 - "Hot Key" which will allow you to flip back and forth
between the application and the Application Selection Menu Screen. That can be changed by hitting
PF4 or F4 from the Application Selection Menu Screen. On a PC running 3270 emulation
the PA2 key is Alt-Home.
Jump Key(whatever key you define) - will allow you to flip back and forth between the sessions that
are active(signed on to).
Logging Off NVAS
There are two ways to log off NVAS.
- Type LOGOFF from the Application Selection Menu Screen. This
will log you off ALL the active sessions.
- Type LF# from the Application Selection Menu Screen, where the #
is the application you would like to log off from. This will
only log you off of that session.
Applications
ADM from the Application selection Menu Screen will allow you to change
your jump key information and the order of your applications which appears on the menu. Remember
you must know the application that you would like to change before you enter ADM.
PCICS0 is in pass mode. This application will sign you on
to CICS with your "true" terminal id. This would be used for a terminal specific application,
like TAPS. To get back to the Application Selection Menu Screen you will have to sign off CICS(hit
PF12 or F12), PA2 key will NOT work.
RCICS0 is in relaymode. This application will give you the
full functionality of NVAS. It will allow you to PA2 back to the Application Selection Menu Screen
and use the jump key that you have selected to go back and forth between different applications. This
application will select a terminal id from a terminal pool, you will not get your "true" terminal id.
Extra Information
The password will expire for NVAS every 60 days. NVAS will prompt
you to make your password change. When this happens, you will have to go into the NEW PASSWORD
field and enter in your new password.
By using NVAS, one CICS transaction can be invoked when selecting
a CICS option from the Application Selection Menu Screen. If you would like this done contact John
Clement at 438-7254 or by E-mail - jmcleme@ilstu.edu.
Your PA1 printer id follows your NVAS id. It is no longer associated
with the terminal id. If this printer id needs to be changed contact John Clement at 438-7254 or by
E-mail - jmcleme@ilstu.edu.
